In the middle of Bogda Peak, 110 km (68miles) east of Urumqi, nestles Heavenly Lake. Covering 4.9 square kilometers (1.89 square miles), this crescent-shaped lake deserves its name, Pearl of Heavenly Mountain (Tianshan Mountain). With melted snow as its source, Heavenly Lake enjoys crystal water.
The Jiaohe ruins was built on a large islet (1650 m in length, 300 m wide at its widest point) in the middle of a river which formed natural defenses, which would explain why the city lacked any sort of walls. Instead, steep cliffs on all sides of the river acted as natural walls. The layout of the city had eastern and western residential districts, while the northern district was reserved for Buddhist sites of temples and stupas. Along with this there are notable graveyards and the ruins of a large government office in the southern part of the eastern district

D1 Urumqi – Heavenly Lake – International Grand Bazaar (Lunch)
Your private tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Urumqi in the morning and drive you to Heavenly Lake (Tianshan Tianchi), a spectacular alpine lake surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Tianshan Mountains.
Known in ancient Chinese legends as Yaochi (Jade Lake), Heavenly Lake was formed by glacial and other geological processes. The crescent-shaped lake is surrounded by forested slopes and majestic mountain peaks, creating one of the most scenic natural landscapes near Urumqi.
Take a leisurely walk along the lakeshore and enjoy the fresh mountain air and beautiful views of the surrounding Tianshan landscape.
After lunch, return to Urumqi and visit the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar, one of the city’s most popular attractions and a great place to experience the diverse culture of Xinjiang.
Explore the bustling market, where shops and stalls offer Xinjiang specialties, dried fruits, nuts, spices, handicrafts, textiles and souvenirs. The lively atmosphere makes the bazaar an excellent place to experience local life and taste regional foods.
Return to your hotel in Urumqi in the evening.

D2 Urumqi – Turpan: Jiaohe Ancient City, Bezeklik Caves, Flaming Mountains & Karez Irrigation System (Lunch)
In the morning, meet your guide at your hotel and drive approximately 2 hours from Urumqi to Turpan, a famous oasis city on the ancient Silk Road.
Begin your sightseeing with Jiaohe Ancient City, one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Xinjiang. The ancient city was once the capital of the Jushi Kingdom and later became an important settlement and military center along the Silk Road. Built mainly from rammed earth on a natural plateau, its remarkably preserved ruins include streets, residential areas, temples and government buildings.
Continue to the Karez Irrigation System, an ingenious traditional water-management system developed to bring underground water from the Tianshan foothills to Turpan’s settlements and farmland. Often described as an “underground Great Wall,” the Karez system played an important role in supporting agriculture and oasis life in this extremely dry region.
In the afternoon, visit the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves, located in a spectacular desert valley beneath the Flaming Mountains. The cave complex contains Buddhist murals and other remains that reflect the cultural and religious exchanges that took place along the ancient Silk Road.
Continue to the Flaming Mountains, famous for their striking red sandstone ridges and extremely dry climate. The mountains are also associated with the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West and its famous story of the Monkey King.
After the sightseeing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Turpan.
