Day 1 Arrive in Kuqa
Fly to Kuqa in the morning. Upon arrival, your local tour guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel.
In the afternoon, take a leisurely walking tour through Kuqa Old Town. After your journey, this is a relaxing way to stretch your legs while getting your first impression of this historic city. Wander through the traditional streets and residential neighborhoods, where you can see distinctive Uyghur architecture, local shops and everyday life.
Continue to Kuqa Mosque, an important Islamic landmark in the city. The mosque provides an opportunity to appreciate the architectural and religious heritage of Kuqa, where different cultural traditions have developed along the historic Silk Road.
After the sightseeing, return to your hotel and enjoy a free evening in Kuqa.

Day 2 Kuqa Desert Landscapes & Kizil Caves
Today, explore the remarkable combination of ancient Buddhist heritage and spectacular desert landscapes around Kuqa.
In the morning, drive to the Kizil Thousand-Buddha Caves, one of the most important Buddhist cave complexes along the ancient Silk Road. The earliest caves date back to around the 3rd century, and the site is renowned for its early Buddhist murals, sculptures and artistic traditions. The paintings provide a fascinating glimpse into the religious and cultural exchanges that took place across Central Asia more than a thousand years ago.
Continue to explore the remains of an ancient Han-era beacon tower, which reflects the strategic importance of the Kuqa area along the ancient Silk Road. These watchtowers formed part of the extensive defensive and communication network established in ancient China.
In the afternoon, head to Kuqa Grand Canyon, one of the most impressive natural attractions in the region. Take a moderate hike through the dramatic red-rock canyon, surrounded by rugged cliffs and striking Danxia-style landforms shaped by wind and erosion. The contrast between the barren desert landscape and the towering Tianshan foothills makes this an excellent destination for photography.
Return to Kuqa city in the late afternoon.

Day 3 Ancient Qiuci Culture & Subash Buddhist Ruins
Kuqa was historically known as the center of the ancient Qiuci (Kucha) Kingdom, an important oasis kingdom on the northern route of the Silk Road. Its location connected different cultural worlds, and Buddhism, Central Asian traditions and Chinese culture all influenced the region.
In the morning, visit the Palace of the Kuqa King, a modern reconstruction inspired by the former royal palace of the Kuqa rulers. Explore the complex to learn more about the history and culture of the ancient Qiuci Kingdom. Depending on local arrangements, you may also have an opportunity to meet performers dressed as members of the former royal family.
Continue to the Kuqa Museum, where a collection of archaeological discoveries, cultural relics and historical displays introduces the history of Kuqa and the ancient Qiuci Kingdom.
In the afternoon, visit the Subash Buddhist Ruins, the remains of a major ancient Buddhist monastery near Kuqa. Dating back to the early centuries of the first millennium, the site offers a fascinating insight into the flourishing Buddhist culture of the ancient Qiuci Kingdom.
The Chinese monk Xuanzang passed through the Qiuci region during his famous pilgrimage to India in the 7th century, and his journey helped document the importance of this area as a Buddhist center along the Silk Road.
Return to Kuqa city in the late afternoon. In the evening, visit a local Wuqia Bazaar, where you can browse stalls selling fresh produce, dried fruits, spices, snacks and other local specialties. It is a good place to experience the lively atmosphere of everyday life in southern Xinjiang.
