Arrive in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang. Depending on your arrival time, meet your private guide and driver and begin a city tour.

 

Visit Red Hill Park, one of Urumqi’s best-known landmarks, where you can enjoy views over the city. Later, explore the lively Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar, where you can browse traditional handicrafts, ethnic textiles, dried fruits, spices, souvenirs, and other local specialties.

D2 Urumqi – Tianchi Lake – Karamay

 

Distance: about 429 km | Driving time: about 5 hours

In the morning, drive for about one hour from Urumqi to Tianchi Lake (Heavenly Lake) in the Tianshan Mountains.

 

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and alpine forests, Tianchi Lake is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise water and beautiful mountain scenery. Take a relaxing walk along the lakeshore and enjoy the peaceful landscape. On a clear day, you may also have a chance to see snow-covered peaks in the distance.

 

After the visit, continue north toward Karamay in the afternoon. Enjoy the changing scenery as the landscape gradually transitions from mountain and grassland to the dry landscapes of northern Xinjiang.

 

Arrive in Karamay and check in to your hotel.

D3 Karamay – Burqin

 

Distance: about 315 km | Driving time: about 3.5 hours

Continue your journey through northern Xinjiang toward Burqin.

 

In the morning, visit the spectacular Urho Ghost City, a fascinating desert landscape characterized by wind-eroded rock formations. The unusual landforms resemble castles, animals, and other imaginative shapes, creating an otherworldly atmosphere across the vast Gobi landscape.

 

Continue toward Burqin and, in the late afternoon, visit Wucai Beach (Five-Colored Beach). Located along the Irtysh River, the area is famous for its colorful rock formations and diversifolious poplar trees (Populus euphratica), which create a striking contrast with the surrounding arid landscape.

 

In the evening, take a walk along China-Russia Old Street, also known for its distinctive local and Russian-influenced atmosphere. Browse shops, sample local specialties, and enjoy a relaxing evening in Burqin.

D4 Burqin – Hemu Village – Jiadengyu

 

Distance: about 157 km | Driving time: about 3 hours

Meals: Breakfast

 

After breakfast, drive to the picturesque Hemu Village, one of the most beautiful traditional settlements in northern Xinjiang.

 

Spend the day exploring Hemu and its surrounding mountain scenery. Walk through the village and admire its traditional wooden houses, peaceful Hemu River, and surrounding silver birch forests.

 

Hike or take a short walk to a viewpoint on the hillside for a panoramic view over the village and the surrounding mountains. The combination of wooden houses, forested hills, and river scenery creates a distinctive landscape that is particularly beautiful in autumn.

 

In the late afternoon, continue to Jiadengyu and check in to your hotel.

D5 Jiadengyu – Kanas – Burqin

 

Distance: about 122 km | Driving time: about 2 hours

In the morning, travel to Kanas Scenic Area, one of northern Xinjiang’s most spectacular natural destinations.

 

Visit the beautiful Kanas Lake, surrounded by forested mountains and alpine scenery. Head to the Fish Viewing Pavilion for a panoramic view over the lake and surrounding mountains.

 

You can also take a leisurely walk along part of the lakeshore and explore the surrounding silver birch forest, enjoying the peaceful natural scenery.

 

In the late afternoon, return to Burqin.

D6 Burqin – Keketuohai National Park – Fuyun

 

Distance: about 320 km | Driving time: about 4 hours

Meals: Breakfast

 

Leave Burqin in the morning and travel to Keketuohai National Park, a scenic area known for its dramatic granite mountains, deep valleys, clear rivers, and forest landscapes.

 

Explore the scenic area and enjoy the combination of mountain valleys, flowing rivers, forests, and unusual rock formations. The peaceful natural surroundings make Keketuohai an excellent place to appreciate the diverse landscapes of northern Xinjiang.

 

In the late afternoon, continue to Fuyun and check in to your hotel.

 

Stay overnight in Fuyun.

 

D7 Fuyun – Gurbantünggüt Desert – Urumqi

 

Distance: about 473 km | Driving time: about 5 hours

Meals: Breakfast

 

Today, drive back toward Urumqi through the vast landscapes of northern Xinjiang.

 

En route, pass through or stop near the Gurbantünggüt Desert, China’s second-largest desert. Enjoy views of the expansive desert landscape and experience the dramatic contrast between the desert and the surrounding oasis and mountain regions.

 

Continue to Urumqi and arrive in the late afternoon.

 

Stay overnight in Urumqi.

 

D8 Urumqi Departure

After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you to Urumqi Airport or Railway Station according to your onward travel arrangements.

 

Take your flight or train to your next destination.

 

Your 8-day Northern Xinjiang tour ends here.
