Fly to Kashgar from Beijing, Chengdu, or another major city according to your travel arrangements. Upon arrival, meet your private guide and driver at Kashgar Airport and transfer to your hotel.

 

Depending on your arrival time, you can take a short city tour in the afternoon or evening. Explore the lively streets of Kashgar and get your first impression of this historic Silk Road city, known for its distinctive Uyghur culture and vibrant atmosphere.

D2 Kashgar City Tour

Begin your Kashgar sightseeing with a visit to the Abakh Khoja Tomb, also known as the Fragrant Concubine Tomb. This historic mausoleum is an important cultural site in Kashgar and offers an introduction to the history, architecture, and traditions of the local Uyghur people.

 

Continue to the Kashgar Livestock Market, also known as the Cow and Goat Bazaar, where local farmers and traders gather to buy and sell livestock. Walking through the market provides an interesting glimpse into traditional commerce and everyday life in southern Xinjiang.

 

In the afternoon, return to the old city of Kashgar and visit the exterior grounds of Id Kah Mosque, one of the city’s most important Islamic landmarks. Admire its distinctive architecture before taking time to explore the lively streets and traditional neighborhoods of Kashgar Old City.

 

Wander through the maze of old lanes, browse traditional handicraft shops, and discover local specialties and Muslim cuisine. The colorful streets and everyday life of the old town provide a wonderful opportunity to experience the cultural character of Kashgar.

D3 Kashgar – Tashkurgan

 

Distance: about 290 km | Driving time: about 5.5 hours

Today, travel from Kashgar toward Tashkurgan on the spectacular Pamir Plateau. The journey takes you through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in southern Xinjiang, close to the borders with Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.

 

Along the way, stop at Baisha Lake, famous for its striking contrast between the white sand dunes and clear blue-green water. Take a walk around the viewpoint and enjoy the unique landscape of the Pamir region.

 

Continue toward Karakul Lake, where you can admire the tranquil alpine lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains. On a clear day, you can also enjoy impressive views of Muztagh Ata, one of the most recognizable peaks in the region.

 

Arrive in Tashkurgan in the late afternoon. Take a relaxing walk around this beautiful highland town and experience the distinctive culture and traditions of the local Tajik people.

D4 Tashkurgan – Kashgar

Spend the morning exploring the beautiful landscapes around Tashkurgan. Enjoy the vast highland grasslands, rugged mountains, and open valleys of the Pamir Plateau.

 

Take some time to appreciate the peaceful scenery and experience the unique atmosphere of this remote mountain region before beginning your journey back to Kashgar in the afternoon.

 

Arrive in Kashgar later in the day and check in to your hotel.

D5 Kashgar – Urumqi

 

Meals: Breakfast

 

After breakfast, transfer to Kashgar Airport for your flight to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang.

 

Upon arrival, meet your local guide and begin your Urumqi city tour according to your arrival time. Visit Red Hill Park, one of the city’s well-known landmarks, and enjoy views over Urumqi.

 

Later, explore the lively Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar, where you can browse traditional handicrafts, ethnic textiles, dried fruits, spices, souvenirs, and other local products. It is also a great place to experience the multicultural atmosphere of Xinjiang.

D6 Urumqi – Turpan

 

Meals: Breakfast

 

After breakfast, drive from Urumqi to Turpan, an important oasis city along the ancient Silk Road.

 

Upon arrival, visit the remarkable Jiaohe Ancient City, an ancient settlement built on a naturally formed earthen plateau. With a history dating back more than 2,000 years, the ruins provide a fascinating insight into the civilizations and trade networks that once flourished along the Silk Road.

 

In the afternoon, continue your Turpan sightseeing with a visit to the Karez Well System, an ingenious ancient irrigation network. Explore the underground channels and wells that transported water from the surrounding mountains to the oasis, making it possible for people to live and farm in this extremely dry region.

 

You will also have an opportunity to experience the distinctive Uyghur culture and local way of life in Turpan.

D7 Turpan – Urumqi

 

Distance: about 198 km | Driving time: about 2 hours

Meals: Breakfast

 

In the morning, visit the spectacular Flaming Mountains, famous for their reddish-orange landscape and their connection with the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. The mountains are particularly impressive under the sunlight, when their bare ridges appear to glow like flames.

 

Continue to Tuyugou Valley, one of the oldest settlements in the Turpan area. Explore the traditional Uyghur village and learn more about the local lifestyle, architecture, and agricultural traditions of this historic oasis community.

 

In the afternoon, drive back to Urumqi. Upon arrival, transfer to Urumqi Airport or Railway Station for your onward flight or train.

 

Your Kashgar, Pamir Plateau, Urumqi and Turpan tour ends with your onward journey.
