Xiamen Unversity
Xiamen University in Fujian Province
Located in Xiamen, Fujian Province, Xiamen University is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful university campuses in China. Founded in 1921 by Tan Kah Kee, a renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader and philanthropist, the university combines academic excellence, historical significance, and stunning natural scenery.
As one of China’s leading universities, Xiamen University was selected as a key institution under China’s “211 Project” and “985 Project”, national initiatives aimed at developing world-class universities and advanced research capabilities. Over the past century, it has cultivated numerous outstanding talents and made important contributions to China’s education and scientific development.
Beyond its academic reputation, Xiamen University has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Xiamen because of its beautiful architecture, peaceful environment, and unique seaside location.

A Romantic Campus by the Sea
Known as the “most beautiful and romantic university campus in China,” Xiamen University attracts countless visitors every year. The campus combines traditional Chinese architectural styles with modern university facilities, creating a charming atmosphere for sightseeing.
The campus features:
* Beautiful lakes and gardens
* Historic buildings with traditional designs
* Tree-lined pathways
* Mountain views
* Coastal scenery
The university is located between Wulao Peak and the sea, creating a picturesque setting with excellent natural surroundings. Its location is also considered favorable according to traditional Chinese feng shui principles, with mountains behind and the ocean in front.
Walking through the campus allows visitors to experience not only the beauty of the environment but also the cultural atmosphere of one of China’s most prestigious universities.

Visiting Xiamen University and South Putuo Temple
A visit to Xiamen University is often combined with a trip to the nearby South Putuo Temple (Nanputuo Temple), one of Xiamen’s most famous Buddhist temples.
The South Gate of Xiamen University is located just a few steps away from South Putuo Temple. Although it is called the “South Gate,” it is actually located on the western side of the campus, and the name comes from its close proximity to the temple.
A popular sightseeing route is:
South Putuo Temple → Xiamen University South Gate → Campus Walk → Baicheng Gate → Baicheng Beach
This route allows visitors to experience Xiamen’s religious culture, university history, and coastal scenery in one journey.

Baicheng Beach: A Relaxing Coastal Escape
After exploring the campus, visitors can exit through Baicheng Gate, located near the seaside.
Just outside the gate is Baicheng Beach, a beautiful crescent-shaped sandy beach and one of the most popular leisure areas near Xiamen University.
The beach is a favorite place for:
* Students relaxing after classes
* Couples enjoying seaside walks
* Visitors watching sunsets
* Travelers taking photos of the coastline
With its combination of ocean views, soft sand, and romantic atmosphere, Baicheng Beach adds the perfect ending to a Xiamen University visit.

Travel Tips for Visiting Xiamen University
For travelers planning a Xiamen University campus tour, it is recommended to:
* Visit in the morning or late afternoon for comfortable weather and better photography
* Combine the visit with South Putuo Temple and Baicheng Beach
* Allow around 1–2 hours to explore the campus
* Check current visitor policies before arrival, as campus access rules may change

Why Visit Xiamen University?
With its century-old history, beautiful coastal location, and unique cultural atmosphere, Xiamen University is more than an educational institution—it is a symbol of Xiamen’s charm and creativity.
For travelers exploring Xiamen, visiting this historic campus offers a chance to experience the harmony of education, architecture, nature, and seaside life.
