Guangxi Museum
Located in Nanning City, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is one of the most important cultural institutions in southern China. Originally built in Guilin in 1934, the museum was later relocated to Nanning in 1954 and renovated in 1978. Today, it covers a total construction area of approximately 15,000 square meters, including around 7,000 square meters of exhibition space.
The museum houses a remarkable collection of more than 50,000 cultural relics, showcasing the long history and diverse cultures of Guangxi. Among its most notable collections are over 400 bronze drums, the largest collection of its kind in China, as well as more than 50,000 ancient books and historical documents.
The museum features two major permanent exhibitions: the Exhibition of Guangxi Historical Relics and the Exhibition of Guangxi Revolutionary Relics. The Guangxi Historical Relics Exhibition presents the region’s development from prehistoric times, with artifacts dating back approximately 50,000 years, allowing visitors to explore the origins of human activity and civilization in Guangxi.
Through its extensive collections and exhibitions, the Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region provides an excellent introduction to Guangxi’s history, ethnic traditions, and cultural heritage. It is a must-visit destination for travelers interested in learning more about the history and diversity of southern China.
