Three Gorges Museum of Chongqing
Chongqing Three Gorges MuseumThe Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, also known as the Chongqing Museum, is one of the most important cultural attractions in Chongqing and a must-visit destination for travelers interested in Chinese history, archaeology, and the civilization of the Yangtze River. Located on Renmin Road in Yuzhong District, near Chongqing People’s Square and the Chongqing People’s Great Hall, the museum is a landmark cultural site that showcases the natural environment, historical development, and cultural heritage of the Three Gorges region.
Covering a site area of approximately 50,000 square meters, the museum has a total floor area of 71,700 square meters, including 31,000 square meters of exhibition space. As one of China’s leading museums dedicated to the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges area, it provides visitors with a comprehensive introduction to the region’s history, ancient civilizations, and natural heritage.

History of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum
The history of the Three Gorges Museum Chongqing dates back to March 1951, when it was first established as the Southwest Museum. It was renamed the Chongqing Museum in June 1955 and officially reopened as the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum on June 18, 2005.
Today, the museum complex consists of five major institutions:
