Litang Horse Riding and Racing Festival
Litang Horse Racing Festival has long been an internationally famous Tibetan festival. The predecessor of Litang Horse Riding Festival was the traditional horse racing activity of the Litang Tibetan people on June 3 of Tibetan calendar, which has a history of more than 400 years. In 1964, the local government fixed this festival day on August 1 every year, and which lasted for 7 days every time, so it was also called the "August 1" horse festival. In 2008, the Litang Horse Riding festival was suspended due to political reasons. In August 2019, Litang County was awarded "Hometown of Sichuan Horse Racing Culture" and "Hometown of National Equestrian in Sichuan Province"; On August 15 of the same year, it was named "Hometown of Chinese Tibetan Horse Racing Culture" by Chinese Folk Writers Association, but the following date was not held strictly on August 1, but was held at the end of July according to the specific form.

The process of Litang Horse Racing Festival:
On the morning of the first day, as the five-star red flag was rising on the grassland, the participants, people of all ethnic groups and tourists would stand in front of the Chinese national flag and sing the national anthem in unison, drawing a beautiful picture of unity and harmonious coexistence.
After the flag-raising ceremony,  horses with bright hair color and vigorous posture will enter the venue under the heroic control of the riders. The procession is orderly, and the colorful saddle and the riders complement each other, forming a dazzling landscape. In the audience’ cheers, applause, trumpets sound one after another, the site will turned out to be a sea of joy, witnessing the feast of strength and beauty。

Then there was the opening ceremony of arts performance. The performance includes a variety of ethnic songs and dances, either deep and simple, or full of vitality and hope, together depicting a vivid picture of Tibetan culture. The famous Litang on horseback, with its unique equestrian performance and rough dance style, vividly reproduces the harmonious life scene of Litang people and horses.

After the magnificent "ten thousand horses galloping" performance, it is the most exciting equestrian performance. Tibetan riders dressed in traditional clothes, jumped into the saddle, just as if they were warriors on the ancient battlefield, brave and mighty. In the sun, the horses' manes shone golden, and they interacted with the rider, and every jump and turn seemed smooth and powerful. In the show, the riders will not only show off their superb riding skills, but also incorporate a variety of difficult movements, such as horse belly hiding, leaning over to pick up Hada, hanging upside down.....
.
The next few days will be detailed competition of horse riding skills. The festival will classify various skills of equestrian competitions, such as speed racing, horse archery and so on.

Litang Horse Racing Festival has gradually developed into a large-scale cultural events integrating folk entertainment, ethnic songs and dances, local opera, traditional crafts and material exchange. At the same time, the horse festival is not only a sports event of ten thousand horses galloping, but also a folk event of the city, and a grand business event of the exchange. It will lead everyone to enjoy the unique plateau scenery, splendid ethnic culture and strong ethnic customs.
