Rising south of Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province in Central China and close to the Yangtze River in the north and by Poyang Lake in the east, Mt Lushan has a total mountain-body area of 302km2 in a south-north long and east-west narrow shape.
The whole mountain has more than 90 peaks in total, and the highest one is the Greater Hanyang Peak, which thrusts itself 1,473.4m high above sea level. Distributed among the peaks are gorges, crag caves, waterfalls and creeks, and their land forms and topography are complicated and diversified.
