Located at the northwest corner of Yunnan Province, Lijiang is a small peaceful town set in a valley and distinguished by an intricate system of narrow waters and canals. With an elevation of 2400 meters above sea level, the urban area covers 6 square kilometers with a population of 60,000.
Nestled beneath snow-capped peaks, Lijiang is a living museum as it is home to the Naxi people who have steadfastly preserved their centuries-old heritage. They still live in traditional homes, play ancient music and celebrate ethnic festivals with vitality. Originally the town is called Dayan, which has nearly 800 years of history. More than 4000 families still live here.
Lijiang old town (including Dayan, Baisha and Shuhe) was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in December 4, 1997. Since then, the local government has taken more responsibility for the development and protection of the old city. Lijiang's tourism also boomed, and travellers from around the world flooded in; although many locals fear that due to much of the development, the old town of Lijiang will lose its appeal.
Most interesting attractions here included the old town (Dayan), Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Tiger Leaping Gorge and Shuhe Village.

Day 1 Lijiang Leisure Tour (Lunch)
Arrive in Lijiang today, where your local tour guide will meet you and assist with your transfer into the city.
Begin your Lijiang tour with a leisurely exploration of Dayan Ancient Town, the historic heart of Lijiang. Stroll along its charming cobblestone streets, admire traditional Naxi-style houses, and discover the old town’s network of canals and waterways. The combination of traditional architecture, flowing water, stone bridges, and local shops creates a distinctive atmosphere.
In the evening, you can continue exploring Dayan Ancient Town at your own pace. As night falls, the old town becomes livelier, with restaurants, shops, bars, and cultural performances open into the evening.
Overnight in Lijiang.
Day 2 Lijiang – Tiger Leaping Gorge – Shigu Ancient Town – Lijiang (Lunch)
After breakfast, drive approximately 2 hours from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest river gorges in the world. The gorge is formed by the Jinsha River, the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and is surrounded by dramatic mountains and steep cliffs.
Upon arrival, enjoy a few hours of hiking along the mountain trail. The route offers spectacular views of the deep gorge, rushing Jinsha River, and towering mountains, making it an excellent introduction to the natural scenery of northwestern Yunnan.
After the hike, continue to Shigu Ancient Town, a historic riverside town on the banks of the Yangtze River. Shigu is particularly famous for the First Bend of the Yangtze River, where the river makes a dramatic turn before continuing north toward the Tibetan Plateau.
After sightseeing, drive approximately 2 hours back to Lijiang. Arrive in the late afternoon and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 3 Jade Dragon Snow Mountain – Impression Lijiang – Baisha Ancient Town – Departure (Lunch)
After breakfast, head to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Snow Mountain), one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in Lijiang. The massif stretches for approximately 32 km from north to south and consists of 13 major peaks. Its highest peak, Shanzidou, reaches 5,596 meters above sea level, while many of the other peaks rise above 4,000 meters and remain snow-covered for much of the year.
Take the environmentally friendly shuttle bus and cable car according to the selected sightseeing route, enjoying panoramic views of the snow-covered peaks, alpine landscapes, and surrounding valleys.
Later, watch Impression Lijiang, a large-scale outdoor cultural performance staged against the dramatic backdrop of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Featuring traditional songs and dances performed by Naxi and other local ethnic groups, the show presents the region’s distinctive culture and traditions. Rather than following a conventional storyline, the performance focuses on music, dance, costumes, and cultural expression.
In the afternoon, continue to Baisha Ancient Town, one of the oldest settlements in the Lijiang area. Visit the famous Baisha Murals, which feature intricate lines, vivid colors, and diverse cultural influences. The murals are an important example of the region’s historical art and reflect the cultural exchanges that took place in Lijiang over the centuries.
If time permits, continue to Yufeng Temple, a historic Tibetan Buddhist temple surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.
In the late afternoon, your guide and driver will transfer you to Lijiang Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey, marking the end of your Lijiang tour.
