In the morning, your private tour guide will meet you at your hotel in Kunming. Then drive approximately 1 hour to the Stone Forest (Shilin), one of Yunnan’s most spectacular natural attractions.
Spend the morning exploring the vast Stone Forest scenic area, where thousands of towering limestone formations rise from the landscape in a remarkable variety of shapes. Wander along the paths between the dramatic stone peaks and discover why this unique karst landscape has long been celebrated as a natural wonder.
The Stone Forest is also home to the Sani people, a branch of the Yi ethnic group. During your visit, you can learn about their traditional culture, customs, colorful costumes, and local way of life.
After the Stone Forest visit, return to Kunming and head to Dianchi Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the lakeside and take in the open views of the water and surrounding mountains. The lake and its wetlands also provide an important habitat for migratory and resident birds, making it a pleasant place for birdwatching during the appropriate seasons.
In the afternoon, explore the Bird and Flower Market, where you can browse stalls selling flowers, plants, traditional handicrafts, pets, and other local products. It offers an interesting glimpse into everyday leisure culture in Kunming.
Continue to Green Lake Park (Cuihu Park) in the heart of the city. Take a relaxing walk around the lake, observe local residents enjoying their leisure time, and experience the laid-back atmosphere that has earned Kunming a reputation as one of China’s pleasant highland cities.
In the late afternoon, your guide and driver will transfer you back to your hotel, bringing your Kunming day tour to an end.
