Jianshui, located in Honghe Prefecture , has been a center for Confucian studies for almost eight hundred years and possesses China's third largest Confucian temple complex. The area is also home to several ethnic minorities, the largest populations of which are the Hani, Yi, Dai, Hui, and Miao.
Because of all the cultural mixing, Jianshui is an excellent place to indulge in some of Yunnan's finest cuisine, observe the skills of traditional artisans and track down a few well-preserved architectural gems. Its subtropical highland climate doesn't hurt either.

Day 1 Kunming – Jianshui – Zhu Family Garden – Jianshui Ancient Town (Lunch, Dinner)
In the morning, your private tour guide will meet you at your hotel in Kunming and drive you to Jianshui, a historic town in southern Yunnan. The journey takes approximately 2 hours.
After arriving in Jianshui, begin your afternoon sightseeing with a visit to the Zhu Family Garden, a magnificent traditional residence built by the wealthy Zhu family during the late Qing Dynasty. Covering approximately 20,000 square meters, the complex features elegant courtyards, traditional Chinese architecture, gardens, ponds, and intricately decorated halls. Its well-preserved layout offers an excellent glimpse into the lifestyle and architecture of a prosperous family in historic Yunnan.
Later in the afternoon, take a leisurely walk through Jianshui Ancient Town. Explore its historic streets, traditional residences, old shops, and charming local neighborhoods while experiencing the relaxed atmosphere of this centuries-old town.
Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and stay overnight in Jianshui.
Day 2 Jianshui – Confucius Temple – Jianshui Ancient Town – Kunming (Breakfast, Lunch)
After breakfast, visit the Jianshui Confucius Temple, one of the most important historic Confucian sites in Yunnan. Originally built in 1285 during the Yuan Dynasty, the temple complex was designed following the traditional layout of the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong, the birthplace of Confucius. It is renowned for its impressive scale, traditional architecture, ancient trees, courtyards, and well-preserved stone inscriptions.
After visiting the temple, continue exploring Jianshui Ancient Town and discover more of its historic streets and traditional architecture. You will have time to experience the town at a leisurely pace and enjoy its distinctive local atmosphere.
After lunch, drive approximately 2 hours back to Kunming. Upon arrival, your guide will transfer you to your hotel or another location in the city, marking the end of your 2-day Jianshui tour.
