Tiger Hill
Tiger Hill (Huqiu) is one of the most famous attractions in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and a National AAAAA Tourist Attraction. Known as the “No.1 Sight in Wu Region,” Tiger Hill combines breathtaking natural scenery, ancient monuments, classical gardens, and more than 2,500 years of history, making it one of Suzhou’s most iconic cultural landmarks.
Famous for its legendary stories, historic temples, and the remarkable Tiger Hill Pagoda (Yunyan Pagoda), the scenic area offers visitors a fascinating journey through the history and cultural heritage of Jiangnan.

A Historic Hill with Over 2,500 Years of History
The history of Tiger Hill dates back to the Spring and Autumn Period (770–476 BC). According to legend, King Helü of the State of Wu was buried here, and a white tiger appeared on the hill three days after his burial, giving the site its name.
Throughout more than two thousand years, Tiger Hill has attracted emperors, scholars, poets, and artists. Numerous poems, inscriptions, and historical relics remain throughout the scenic area, reflecting the rich cultural traditions of ancient Suzhou.
Today, Tiger Hill remains one of the most important historical and cultural sites in Jiangsu Province and a must-visit destination for travelers exploring Suzhou.

Tiger Hill Pagoda (Yunyan Pagoda)
The most famous landmark of Tiger Hill is the Tiger Hill Pagoda, also known as Yunyan Pagoda.
Built more than 1,000 years ago during the Northern Song Dynasty, this seven-story brick pagoda is famous for its noticeable tilt caused by changes in its ancient foundation. Because of its leaning appearance, it is often called “China’s Leaning Tower.”
The pagoda has become the symbol of Suzhou and is considered one of the finest examples of ancient brick pagoda architecture in China.

Sword Pool
Sword Pool (Jianchi) is one of the most mysterious and fascinating attractions at Tiger Hill.
According to legend, thousands of precious swords were buried beneath the pool together with King Helü, although the legendary treasure has never been discovered.
Surrounded by steep cliffs and peaceful waters, Sword Pool creates a dramatic landscape and is one of the most photographed spots in the scenic area.

Thousand People Rock
Thousand People Rock is a large stone terrace with historical significance.
Legend says that King Helü once gathered his soldiers here. Today, the area is used for cultural performances and provides visitors with excellent views of the surrounding historic landscape.

Ancient Temples and Stone Inscriptions
Throughout Tiger Hill Scenic Area, visitors can discover ancient temples, stone carvings, pavilions, and historical inscriptions.
These cultural relics showcase the development of Jiangnan culture, Buddhist traditions, and Suzhou’s artistic heritage over centuries.
