Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge
The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge (also known as the First Wuhan Yangtze Bridge) is one of the most iconic landmarks in Wuhan, Hubei Province. As the first bridge ever constructed over the Yangtze River in Wuhan, it holds great historical and cultural significance and has become a symbol of the city’s development.
Completed in 1957, the bridge stretches across the mighty Yangtze River, connecting Wuchang District and Hanyang District in Wuhan. With a total length of approximately 1,670 meters and a main bridge section of 1,156 meters, it was a remarkable engineering achievement at the time of its construction.
A Unique Double-Deck Bridge Design
The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge features a distinctive double-deck structure with eight piers and nine openings.
* The upper deck is used for road traffic, allowing buses and vehicles to travel across the river.
* The lower deck is designed for railway transportation, carrying trains between the two sides of Wuhan.
The roadway is about 18 meters wide, allowing multiple buses to travel side by side. The combination of highway and railway functions makes the bridge an important transportation hub connecting central China.
