Day 1: Xiamen – Yongding Hakka Tulou – Xiamen
08:00 – Depart Xiamen
Your private driver will pick you up from your hotel in Xiamen and drive you to the Yongding Hakka Tulou area in Longyan, Fujian Province. The journey takes approximately 2.5–3 hours.
Along the way, enjoy the rural scenery, including banana plantations and other agricultural landscapes. Make a stop at a local tea plantation, where you can take a leisurely walk among the tea bushes, try picking tea leaves, or simply enjoy the fresh countryside air.
You will also visit a local tea house to watch a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and taste Fujian tea. Fujian has a long history of tea cultivation and is one of China’s major tea-producing regions. This visit provides an opportunity to learn about local tea culture and traditional tea-making practices.
11:00 – Gaobei Tulou Cluster
Arrive at the Gaobei Tulou Cluster and visit Chengqilou, one of the largest and most impressive Tulou buildings in the area.
Built nearly 300 years ago, Chengqilou consists of four concentric circular structures and is renowned for its impressive scale. At its peak, it accommodated dozens of Hakka families and more than 600 residents.
Take a walk around the Tulou and learn how these remarkable earth buildings were designed to provide homes and communal spaces for large Hakka communities.
13:00 – Chuxi Tulou Cluster
Continue to Chuxi Tulou Cluster, a picturesque group of traditional Hakka earth buildings set among the hills.
Chuxi is home to several well-preserved Tulou buildings, including Jiqinglou, Shengqilou, and Yuqinglou. These buildings showcase the distinctive architecture and communal lifestyle of the Hakka people.
Jiqinglou, built in 1419 during the Ming Dynasty, features two concentric rings and four floors. Its numerous stairways divide the building into separate living units. Shengqilou, built in 1799, is another impressive example of traditional Tulou architecture, while Yuqinglou, dating from 1729, has been adapted as a local family guesthouse.
In the afternoon, visit a local Hakka family and chat with your hosts to learn about their daily life, traditions, and customs. You can also climb to a nearby viewpoint for a bird’s-eye view of Chuxi Village and the surrounding countryside.
Afterwards, enjoy some free time to stroll around the village and appreciate the peaceful rural atmosphere.
16:00 – Return to Xiamen
After the visit, begin the drive back to Xiamen. Arrive in Xiamen at approximately 19:00.
