2 Days Dongchuan Red Soil Land Tour
Kunming-Dongchuan-Kunming
Feast your eyes on the beautiful colors of Dongchuan Red Land scenery!
Dongchuan Red Soil boasts the most typical red soil in Yunnan's highland. Experts regard it as one of the most marvelous red land in the world, comparable with the one in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Visiting this area, you will be deeply impressed by its beautiful scenery. Landscapes in deep red, green and orange spread over thousands of hills and mountains.
The wind blows and the plants in the fields wave tenderly. It looks like a colorful picture drawn by nature. Having a look at it from a distance it actually looks more than an oil painting of Van Gough. The real creators though are the local farmers who 'painted' this naturally beautiful picture over the last centuries. They ploughed and seeded and over the years they created one of the most beautiful areas in China, perfectly suited for photography enthusiasts.

Day 01: Kunming - Dongchuan

Your tour guide will pick you up from your Kunming hotel in the morning. First you'll be invited to a Yunnan Pu’er Tea Ceremony, which is one of the most famous teas in China. Additionally, learn about the interesting tea culture of China and the history of the "Tea Horse Road". You can also take some Pu’er tea with you as gifts for your family and friends as it’s a symbol of Yunnan culture.
Later on we will drive to Dongchuan Red Soil area within about 2.5 - 3 hours (180km). After a rich lunch on the way, when you get to Red Land area, you will pass Luoxiagou Valley and enjoy spectacular views onto the villages and farmlands surrounded by red land. The sunset atmosphere in the evening turns the splendid views to an even more remarkable event, offering almost endless opportunities to photography enthusiasts. Afterwards we enjoy a typical local dinner and stay overnight in Dongchuan.

Day 02: Dongchuan - Kunming

You will get up early to be present when the sun is rising over Dongchuan Red Soil Land in the morning. Viewed from distance, the hills and fields appear in all kinds of red colors. The flowers blossom on hills and slopes and produce multicolored scenery together with golden wheat fields waving in the breeze. We watch local peasants doing their farm work. After lunch we will drive you back to your hotel in Kunming.

Optional Extension Tour:
  1. Xiaoshuijing (Small Well) is located in the southeastern quarter of Fumin Town and the way to Jiaozi Snow Mountain and Dongchuan Red Land, 40 kilometers away from Kunming (1 hours’ drive), and can be accessed by a village road. The village is at an elevation of 2380 m, where less than 500 people live, all of whom are of the Christian Miao minority. It is also the biggest Miao village in Kunming Prefecture. There is a comparatively big Church in the village with a choir that sings beautifully (starts as 12:00 on every Sunday). Miao villagers there have their ethnic group’s instruments; songs and dances are well established traditionally with simple and adorned social customs. The exact schedule of the events depends on the festival calendar of Miao minority and Christian feasts – please check with us!
                  Detour surcharge: US$ 50 / per person
  1. Yulong, Haba, Meili. Yunnan has plenty of well-known snow-capped mountains. Jiaozi Snow Mountain is the closest snow mountain to Kunming City. The mountain, whose highest peak is 4247 meters above sea level, is 188 kilometers north of Kunming's urban district, in Luquan Yi and Miao Autonomous County at the northern end of Kunming Prefecture.
You will have the opportunity to hike for 2 days on the Jiaozi Snow Mountain, well-known as the First Mountain in the Middle of Yunnan. Jiaozi Mountain looks green in spring, blue in summer, golden in autumn, and silver in winter. It offers amazing scenery in every season.
