Day 1 Chengdu – Dujiangyan – Mount Qingcheng
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Your private driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel in Chengdu at 8:00 am, and you will drive approximately 2 hours to the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.
Built more than 2,000 years ago, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System is one of the world’s oldest irrigation projects still in operation today. Here, you will discover how ancient Chinese engineers made clever use of the natural topography and water flow of the Minjiang River to create an ingenious irrigation and flood-control system.
During your visit, you will explore the key components of the project, including Yuzui (Fish Mouth Levee), Feishayan (Flying Sand Weir), Baopingkou (Bottle-Neck Channel), and Jingangdi. Each part plays an important role in controlling and distributing the river water. You can also walk across the historic Anlan Suspension Bridge and visit Erwang Temple, which offers a deeper insight into the history and culture behind the irrigation system.
In the afternoon, continue to Mount Qingcheng, one of China’s most famous Taoist mountains and an important birthplace of Taoism. Surrounded by dense forests and tranquil mountain scenery, Mount Qingcheng is an excellent place to experience traditional Chinese Taoist culture while enjoying the fresh mountain air.
You will take a cable car up toward Shangqing Palace, then hike downhill for approximately 2–3 hours. Along the way, you will pass important Taoist sites, including Tianshi Cave (Heavenly Master Cave). According to local tradition, Zhang Daoling, the founder of the Way of the Celestial Masters, established Taoist teachings here.
The combination of ancient temples, peaceful forests, and mountain trails makes Mount Qingcheng a wonderful place to slow down and experience a different side of Sichuan.
In the evening, check in to your hotel at the beautiful foot of Mount Qingcheng and enjoy a relaxing evening surrounded by nature.
Overnight: Hotel at the foot of Mount Qingcheng
