Chishui Scenic Spot
Located in Chishui City in northern Guizhou Province, Chishui Scenic Spot is a spectacular natural destination known for its breathtaking waterfalls, lush forests, clear rivers, bamboo seas, and unique Danxia landforms. Shizhangdong Waterfall – The “First Waterfall of Danxia Landform”
Among the many attractions in Chishui, Shizhangdong Waterfall is the most famous highlight. Located along Fengxi River, a tributary of the Chishui River, the waterfall creates a spectacular scene as the river suddenly encounters a huge red rock cliff and plunges dramatically into a deep pool below.
With a width of about 87 yards (79 meters) and a height of 249 feet (76 meters), Shizhangdong Waterfall is one of the largest waterfalls in China and is often compared with the famous Huangguoshu Waterfall. Behind the waterfall is a natural Water Curtain Cave measuring about 11 yards (10 meters) deep, offering visitors a unique perspective of the rushing water from behind the falls.
At the foot of the waterfall, various rare rocks in different shapes and sizes can be seen. Water flowing through cracks in the rocks resembles crystal-clear jade liquid, creating a magnificent natural scene known as one of the wonders of northern Guizhou.
Bing’an Ancient Town – A Historic Ming and Qing Dynasty Town
About 7 miles (11 kilometers) from Chishui City lies Bing’an Ancient Town, a well-preserved historic town that maintains the traditional appearance of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties.
Surrounded by mountains and rivers, Bing’an Ancient Town was historically an important transportation hub on the route between southern Sichuan and Guizhou. In ancient times, the town could only be reached by waterways, which helped preserve its original architecture and peaceful atmosphere.
The narrow 437-yard (400-meter) stone-paved street in the town once served as a lively marketplace where nearby villages traded goods. Today, visitors can stroll through the ancient streets, admire traditional buildings, and experience the quiet charm of a historic riverside settlement far away from modern city life.
China Jurassic Park – A Living Fossil Garden
Located about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Chishui City, China Jurassic Park is the world’s only national nature reserve dedicated to the protection of Alsophila spinulosa (tree ferns) and their natural habitat.
Covering approximately 15 square miles (38 square kilometers), the park consists of three main scenic areas: Gangou Valley, Dashui Valley, and Liangcha River. The area preserves ancient plant species dating back to the Jurassic period, making it an important destination for ecological tourism and scientific research.
Chishui Bamboo Sea National Forest Park – A Green Ocean of Bamboo
The Chishui Bamboo Sea National Forest Park is a peaceful wonderland featuring vast bamboo forests, waterfalls, virgin forests, and unique red Danxia landforms.
Visitors can climb the 85-foot (26-meter) high Guanhailou (Viewing Bamboo Sea Tower) to enjoy a panoramic view of endless bamboo stretching across the mountains. When the wind passes through the bamboo forest, the waves of green create a refreshing and unforgettable natural experience.
Yanziyan National Forest Park – A Primitive Forest Escape

The scenic area includes Moon Lake, Dashanping, and Shuicha River, offering visitors diverse natural attractions such as cliff inscriptions, virgin forests, waterfalls, Danxia landforms, and historical sites related to the Long March.
