The Heaven Temple
The Heaven Temple, or Sky temple, in the south of Beijing, 
covers an area of about 2.73 million square meters. The Temple of Heaven was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1420 A.D. ). The Heaven Temple is the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties offered sacrifices to heaven and prayed for good harvest.
The Heaven Temple is the general name of the two jars of Circular Mound and Prayer for Good Harvest. There are inner altar and outer altar. The altar wall is round in the north and square in South, symbolizing the round sky and square earth. The main building is the inner altar. The Circular Mound altar is in the south and the altar of prayer is in the north. The two altar are on the same north-south axis with walls in the middle. The main buildings in the Circular Mound Altar are the Circular Mound Altar, the Imperial Dome and so on, while the main buildings in the Temple of Prayer are the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Hall of Emperor Qian, the Gate of Prayer for Prayer, etc.
