Vajra Monastery of Kangding
Located at the foot of Paoma Mountain on the western side of Kangding City, Sichuan Province, Vajra Monastery is an important Tibetan Buddhist temple with a history of more than 700 years. As a monastery belonging to the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism, it represents the deep religious traditions and cultural heritage of the Kham Tibetan region.
In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Vajra is regarded as a powerful warrior attendant of Buddha, symbolizing strength, protection, and spiritual determination.
History of Vajra Monastery
Vajra Monastery was originally built in 1272 AD by the chieftain of Mingzheng during the Ming Dynasty period. Throughout its long history, the monastery experienced many challenges and was damaged or destroyed several times due to wars and conflicts.
After 1984, with support from many respected Tibetan Buddhist masters and overseas Tibetan communities, the monastery entered a period of restoration and development. The religious activities and facilities were gradually rebuilt, allowing the monastery to continue its role as an important center for Tibetan Buddhist practice.
A small Buddhist learning institute was also established inside the monastery, providing opportunities for monks to study Buddhist teachings and traditions.

Vajra Monastery offers visitors an opportunity to experience the spiritual atmosphere of the Kham Tibetan region. Surrounded by the mountains of western Sichuan, the monastery combines traditional Tibetan architecture, religious practices, and centuries-old Buddhist culture.
