Lenggacuo Lake in Mt.Gonggar
Mount Gongga (Minya Konka) in Sichuan ProvinceNestled at an elevation of approximately 4,500 meters (14,764 ft) on the western slopes of Mount Gongga (Minya Konka) in Sichuan Province, Lenggacuo Lake is one of western China’s most breathtaking alpine destinations. Revered as the “Eye of Mount Gongga,” the lake is famous for its crystal-clear waters, which perfectly reflect the 7,556-meter snow-covered summit of Mount Gongga—the highest peak in Sichuan.
Located behind Yulongxi Village, Lenggacuo Lake can be reached via a scenic 3-hour hike, with horseback riding available for visitors seeking a more comfortable journey. Combining spectacular mountain scenery, Tibetan culture, and exceptional photography opportunities, the lake has become a must-visit destination for nature lovers, hikers, and adventure travelers.

Mirror-Like Reflections of Mount Gongga
The greatest attraction of Lenggacuo Lake is its remarkable mirror reflection of Mount Gongga. On calm mornings and evenings, the lake’s glass-like surface perfectly mirrors the towering snow peak, creating one of the most iconic alpine landscapes in China.
Visitors often gather before sunrise or sunset to witness the famous “Golden Mountain in the Sun” phenomenon, when the first or last rays of sunlight illuminate the summit with brilliant golden hues while the reflection doubles the spectacular view. During clear nights, the lake also provides excellent conditions for photographing the Milky Way and star trails above the snow-covered mountains.

A Sacred Alpine Lake
Covering approximately 0.03 square kilometers, Lenggacuo is a pristine glacial lake formed through ancient glacial erosion. The lake freezes for nearly five months each winter, while during the warmer seasons its exceptionally clear water offers visibility exceeding six meters.
As a sacred lake in Tibetan culture, the hiking route passes through colorful prayer flags fluttering across mountain ridges, allowing visitors to experience both the region’s natural beauty and its deep spiritual traditions. The peaceful surroundings and untouched alpine environment create a tranquil atmosphere unlike anywhere else.

Hiking and Photography Paradise
The journey to Lenggacuo Lake is as rewarding as the destination itself. The trail winds through alpine meadows, rocky mountain slopes, and traditional Tibetan grazing lands before reaching the spectacular lakeshore.
Popular activities include:
* Hiking to the high-altitude viewpoint
* Horseback riding to the lake
* Photographing Mount Gongga’s mirror reflections
* Watching the “Golden Mountain in the Sun” at sunrise and sunset
* Stargazing and Milky Way photography
* Experiencing Tibetan prayer flags and mountain culture
* Enjoying panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and seasonal cloud seas

Best Time to Visit
The best seasons to visit Lenggacuo Lake are May to June and September to November, when weather conditions are generally clear and stable, providing the highest chance of seeing Mount Gongga reflected in the lake.
Autumn is especially popular with photographers thanks to crisp mountain air, calm water, vivid alpine colors, and excellent visibility. During winter, the frozen lake creates a dramatic snow-covered landscape, although access may become more challenging due to weather conditions.

Why Visit Lenggacuo Lake?
As one of the finest viewpoints of Mount Gongga, Lenggacuo Lake offers an unforgettable combination of dramatic alpine scenery, pristine glacial landscapes, and authentic Tibetan culture. Its perfect mountain reflections, breathtaking sunrise and sunset views, and peaceful high-altitude environment make it one of the most rewarding destinations for photography, trekking, and nature exploration in western China.
Whether you’re seeking spectacular landscapes, outdoor adventure, or a deeper connection with the natural beauty of the Tibetan Plateau, Lenggacuo Lake delivers one of the most extraordinary mountain experiences in Sichuan.
