Ganzi Monastery is one of the largest and oldest Gelug Sect (Yellow Hat Sect) Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the Garze region, with a history of more than 350 years. In Tibetan, its name represents the meaning of “white and beautiful.”
Located on a hillside in Ganzi City, the monastery faces south and features magnificent Tibetan architectural design. The complex covers a total area of approximately 285,000 square meters, with a building area of around 197,000 square meters.
The main assembly hall is a four-story civil structure designed in the style of a traditional Tibetan palace. Baili Monastery – A Historic Tibetan Buddhist Temple Along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway
Located about 10 kilometers west of Ganzi City, Baili Monastery is a key cultural relic protection site in Sichuan Province and an important Gelug Sect monastery of Tibetan Buddhism.
The monastery stands beside the famous Sichuan-Tibet Highway, making it an important stop for travelers journeying through the Kham Tibetan region. Facing south, the temple covers an area of approximately 19,000 square meters.
The existing main temple is a traditional Tibetan-style attic building containing important religious halls, including the Lecture Hall, Maitreya Buddha Hall, and Dharma Hall.
In 1936, when the Red Army passed through the area during the Long March, Geda Living Buddha established a friendly relationship with Zhu De, the Commander-in-Chief of the Red Army, adding important historical significance to the monastery.
