Chuancai Museum (Sichuan cuisine museum)
Located in Pixian Ancient Town (Pidu District, Chengdu), Chuançais Museum is a unique cultural attraction dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of Sichuan cuisine (Chuan Cuisine). Situated along the ancient Silk Road trade route, Pixian has long been an important commercial center and is famous as the birthplace of Pixian Doubanjiang (Pixian Bean Paste), one of the most essential ingredients in Sichuan cooking.
Unlike traditional museums, Chuançais Museum offers an interactive experience where visitors can not only learn about the history of Sichuan cuisine but also taste local snacks, explore traditional cooking methods, make bean paste, and even cook their own Sichuan dishes under the guidance of professional chefs.

A Unique Sichuan Food Culture Experience
During a visit to Chuançais Museum, guests can enjoy a three-hour cultural journey combining history, food, and hands-on activities.
Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed by the museum director and professional guides, who introduce the history and cultural significance of Sichuan cuisine.
To provide a better experience, visitors are usually divided into small groups. Each group has a dedicated guide who explains the exhibits and helps record memorable moments throughout the tour.
Guests also receive a tasting card, which allows them to sample various traditional Sichuan snacks during the visit.

Explore the History of Sichuan Cuisine
The tour begins at the Greeting Hall, where every detail has cultural meaning. The guides explain the stories behind the decorations, furniture, displays, and even the traditional bricks used in the building.
After leaving the hall, visitors can enjoy freshly made traditional pancakes, available in both sweet and savory flavors.
The next stop is the exhibition hall, which houses a large collection of antiques and cultural items related to Sichuan cooking.
Through ancient:
* Plates and bowls
* Cooking tools
* Recipes
* Culinary documents
visitors can discover the development of Sichuan cuisine over centuries. The exhibits show how traditional craftsmanship became increasingly refined, especially during the Song Dynasty, and how cooking techniques evolved into the rich culinary culture known today.

Experience Making Pixian Bean Paste
One of the highlights of Chuançais Museum is the visit to the small production workshop of Pixian Doubanjiang, a famous fermented chili bean paste that represents the soul of Sichuan cuisine.
Before entering the workshop, visitors wear protective head covers and shoe covers to maintain hygiene standards.
Here, tourists can experience:
* The traditional production process of Pixian bean paste
* Local fermentation techniques
* The importance of ingredients in Sichuan cooking
Nearby, visitors can also explore gardens and farms where fresh vegetables are grown. Many ingredients used later in cooking activities come directly from the museum’s own garden.

Visit the Kitchen God Temple
The museum also features a temple dedicated to the Kitchen God (Zao Shen), an important figure in Chinese folk traditions.
According to Chinese customs, families traditionally worship the Kitchen God on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month before Chinese New Year. People believe that offering food to the Kitchen God will encourage him to report good things to the Jade Emperor and bring peace and good fortune to the family in the coming year.
This visit offers travelers a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese beliefs connected with food and family life.

Cook Your Own Sichuan Dinner
The final part of the experience takes place in the museum kitchen, where visitors become chefs themselves.
With guidance from professional chefs, guests change into cooking clothes and prepare their own Sichuan dishes using traditional techniques and local ingredients.
This hands-on cooking experience allows visitors to understand:
* Sichuan cooking methods
* The balance of flavors in Chuan Cuisine
* The importance of fresh ingredients and spices
After completing the meal, participants can enjoy their own creations together.
At the end of the visit, the museum director presents each participant with a Chef Certificate, marking the completion of this unforgettable Sichuan cuisine journey.

Why Visit Chuançais Museum?
Chuançais Museum is more than a food museum. It is a place where visitors can experience the history, traditions, craftsmanship, and lifestyle behind one of China’s most famous regional cuisines.
Highlights include:
* Learning about Sichuan culinary history
* Tasting authentic Sichuan snacks
* Exploring ancient cooking culture
* Making Pixian bean paste
* Cooking Sichuan dishes personally
* Understanding Chinese food traditions
For travelers visiting Chengdu, Chuançais Museum provides a memorable cultural experience beyond ordinary sightseeing.
