Chen Ziang’s Hometown: Jinhua Shan Mountain Shehong

Zi’ang’s Hometown is a National AAAA-rated tourist attraction covering about 30 square kilometers. It combines the ancient town of Jinhua, Jinhua Mountain Taoist Temple, and Chen Zi’ang’s Reading Platform, offering a fascinating journey into the history, poetry, and Taoist culture of Sichuan.
The centerpiece is Jinhua Mountain Taoist Temple, traditionally traced back to the Tianjian era of the Liang Dynasty, nearly 1,500 years ago. Built along the northern slope of Jinhua Mountain, the temple follows the natural contours of the landscape and features halls, pavilions, caves, courtyards, and ancient cypress trees. Its surviving Ming and Qing architectural features, including Lingguan Hall and Sanqing Hall, reflect the long history of Taoism in the region.
Jinhua Mountain is regarded as one of Sichuan’s four famous Taoist mountains, together with Qingcheng Mountain, Heming Mountain, and Yuntai Mountain.
Behind the temple lies Chen Zi’ang’s Reading Platform, where the great early Tang poet Chen Zi’ang studied in his youth. Chen Zi’ang (661–702) is regarded as one of the pioneering poets who helped transform Chinese poetry during the transition from the early Tang to the flourishing Tang literary tradition. His connection with Jinhua Mountain gives the landscape a distinctive poetic atmosphere.
Visitors can follow the ancient stone steps, cross Hongfei Bridge, explore historical inscriptions and the Yuxu Pavilion palindrome poetry stele, and experience exhibitions devoted to Chen Zi’ang and Chinese poetry culture. The traditional Third Month, Third Day Temple Fair also brings the mountain’s religious and folk traditions to life.
