Located in Lin’an city, northwest of Zhejiang province, Tianmu Mountain is 25km away from the downtown Lin’an and 68km away from Hangzhou city. With an elevation of 1478m, Tianmu Mountain consists of two major summits – the East and West Tianmu Mountain with 10km distance in between.
A spring on the top of each summit resembles an eye watching the sky. The East Tianmu Mountain has been well developed and divided into three scenic sections: East Waterfall Grand Canyon, West Waterfall Forest and Zhao Ming Temple.
The East Waterfall Grand Canyon is the most typical ecological canyon in Tianmu Mountain range with a full length of 1.2km. Covered with prosperous plants, the interior of the canyon is very cool and quiet. The East Cliff Waterfall, as high as 86m, is one of the spectacles of the whole canyon.
The West Waterfall Forest consists of the West Cliff Waterfall and the Wan Song Lin. The overall drop of the West Cliff Waterfall reaches more than 360m. Wan Song Lin is actually a wide original forest rooted in rocks, presenting a grand Chinese ink painting with waterfalls, ancient trails and grotesque pines.
With more than 1500 year long history, the Zhao Ming Temple dates back to the Liang Dynasty(502 AD－557AD)and now is still prosperous.

Day 1: Hangzhou – Tianmu Mountain – Hangzhou
Your Tianmu Mountain hiking tour begins in the morning. Your private guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Hangzhou and drive directly to Tianmu Mountain, located in Lin’an District, approximately 80 kilometers west of downtown Hangzhou.
Upon arrival, start your hiking adventure through the lush mountain landscape. Tianmu Mountain is known for its dense forests, waterfalls, bamboo groves, unusual rock formations and peaceful natural surroundings. About Tianmu Mountain
Tianmu Mountain (Tianmu Shan) is located in Lin’an, Zhejiang Province, west of Hangzhou. The mountain is traditionally associated with two main peaks: West Tianmu Mountain, rising to about 1,506 meters, and East Tianmu Mountain, reaching approximately 1,480 meters.
The name “Tianmu” means “Heavenly Eyes”, referring to the two ponds near the summit of the mountain.
The Tianmu Mountain National Nature Reserve protects an exceptionally rich forest ecosystem and is recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme. Its subtropical mountain climate, abundant rainfall and dense vegetation create ideal conditions for a remarkable variety of plants and wildlife.
Tianmu Mountain is particularly famous for its ancient trees, waterfalls, bamboo forests, tea and distinctive rock formations. More than 2,000 plant species have been recorded in the area, making it an important destination for nature lovers and hikers.
One of the mountain’s most notable botanical features is its population of wild Ginkgo trees. Tianmu Mountain is also home to numerous species of birds and other wildlife, including several protected and endangered species.
