Jiuxiang, a beautiful scenic resort inhabited mainly by the Yi and Hui nationalities, is 20 sq km in area ,also includes 5 tourist attractions, located in Jiuxiang Township, more than 70 kilometres away from Kunming and 47 kilometres away from Yiliang. According to the results of investigation and demonstration made by cave experts both at home and abroad, Jiuxiang cave group developed from shallow-sea deposit in Sinian Epoch and dolomite in siliceous belt 600 million years ago. In the caves there are many hydrogeologic spectacles and scenic spots of flyover and multi-layer caves consisting of stromatolithic rock which is the fossil of microbe in paleocean and called as "prehistoric spectacle" by the experts, bioherm, stone border pool groups, underground plaza and hall, underground river and gorge, as well as fish-back rock, curly rock and vortex pot.
Due to the special surroundings,tourists should take enough clothes since they may get wet in boats when they visit the karst caves and the gorges. The folk songs and dances and the local food are also special. Moreover, Little White Dragon Forest Park and Yangzonghai Lake Scenic Spot are not far from Jiuxiang. Scenic Spot. Jiuxiang Scenic Spot is located in Jiuxiang Yi and Hui Township, Yiliang County, 90 kilometers away from Kunming and 47 kilometers away from Yiliang County. Located in the mountainous area, the climate is cool, the area peaks continuous, the valley of the relative height difference of about 200 meters, the surface elevation in 1750~1900.
The scenic area is mainly cave landscape, famous for the six wonders. There are layers of terraced fields, two waterfalls with a drop of more than 30 meters, three natural stone Bridges with a height of more than 200 meters, four hall cave lion halls, five Jingsoul Gorges with a height of more than 80 meters, and six Yincui Gorge of "the first gorge in central Yunnan". Rainbow Bridge, Dali Dam, Shaba, Sanjiao Cave, Alulong, Mingyue Lake and other scenic spots have been planned and built.
Jiuxiang has coverage rate of 62.3% in dense forest, and rich precious animal and plant resources. The ancient human habitation site, which represents a unique Paleolithic culture in southern China, is known as "nine townships and one unique". Jiuxiang Scenic spot is a member of international Cave Association and a national key scenic spot. It is a new comprehensive scenic area with karst cave landscape as the main body and integrating natural scenery, cultural landscape and ethnic landscape.
