Banpo Site
Banpo Site was discovered in 1953. The then Vice Premier Chen Yi instructed to build a museum on the site and the museum was established and opened to the public in 1958. About ten thousand pieces of cultural relics including the national treasure “the basin with the pattern of human face and fish”; tools for production and articles for daily use, as well as painted pottery and sculptures and various ornaments were unearthed at Banpo Site.These archaeological data reflect the production life and the form of social organization of primitive people comprehensively. It is a typical example of the prehistoric society in prosperity in the middle reaches of Yellow River.
Xi'an Banpo Museum is the first on the site museum of prehistoric settlement in China. In 1961, the State Council announced Banpo Site as one of the first batch of “the National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units”. In 1996, Publicity Department of the Central Committee of CPC announced Banpo Museum as one of the first batch of hundreds of “National Patriotism Education Bases”.
In 1997, the museum was assessed as one of “the Top Ten Tourism Attractions of Xi'an” by Xi'an Municipal Government. In 2006, Mr. Chen Zhongshi, the famous writer, holds the post of cultural spokesman of Xi'an Banpo Museum. In 2008, the State Cultural Relics Bureau announced Banpo Museum as one of the “National First-level Museum”. Guo Moruo, a great writer and a famous scholar, wrote the name for the museum. These show the charm and social and cultural values of Xi'an Banpo Museum.

A new basic exhibition was opened in 2010. The new exhibition use both static and dynamic demonstration method. It has the static cultural relics. And it used many dynamic demonstration methods as well, such as the phantom imaging, electronic opening book, dynamic ground, rotating stand and so on. The half-scenery painting combined virtual and real situation. It shows the scene of production life of “Banpo ancestors”. The use of photovoltaic technology creates a strong visual impact.
The environment of present Banpo Museum is graceful. It is the best place for people to visit. Here, not only contains the splendid ancient civilization, but also marks the footprints of human progress.
