The Longmen Grottoes
The Longmen Grottoes are located about 15 kilometers south of Luoyang City. They are between Mount longmen and Mount Xiang, it's also faced Yi River. Longmen Grottoes, Yungang Caves and Mogao Caves are treated as the most precious national treasure houses of stone inscriptions in China.
The construction of the Longmen Grottoes have more than 493 history,during the reign of Emperor and Xiaowen continued through the successive six dynasties, including Tang and Song dynasties, for a span of over 400 years. totally, there are 1,352 caves, 785 niches, over 97,000 statues of the Buddha, Bodhisativas, and Arhats, and 3,680 inscribed stone tablets along the 1-km-long cliff of Mt. Longmen on the west and Mt.

Among Longmen's wealth of world-famous treasures are flying Apsaras as well as fine works of Chinese calligraphy, represented by the 20 Longmen Calligraphic Samples. You can find 20 pieces of calligraphy deemed perfect and correct representatives of the time they were created.The 17-m high statue of Vairocana in Fengxian Temple is the most representative of the trove.
