Taizhou Shenxianju Immortal House Scenic Spot
Shenxianju Scenic Area (meaning “Residence of the Immortals”) is one of the most spectacular natural attractions in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. Located in Baita Town, Xianju County, the scenic area is famous for its magnificent volcanic landforms, towering peaks, deep valleys, waterfalls, and pristine forest environment.
Covering a total area of approximately 22.32 square kilometers, Shenxianju Scenic Area was officially developed in 1998 and has become one of Zhejiang’s most impressive mountain destinations.
The main peak, Daqinggang Mountain, reaches 1,271 meters above sea level. With its dramatic cliffs, unique rock formations, and peaceful natural surroundings, Shenxianju has long been described as a place where visitors can experience scenery resembling a legendary fairyland.
Natural Wonders of Shenxianju Scenic Area
The cultural history of Shenxianju can be traced back to the late Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD). Beyond its historical significance, the scenic area is also recognized for its exceptional ecological environment.
The concentration of negative oxygen ions in Shenxianju is extremely high, averaging around 21,000 ions per cubic centimeter and reaching a maximum of 88,000 ions per cubic centimeter in some areas. Thanks to its fresh air and lush forests, Shenxianju is often called a “natural oxygen bar” and an ideal destination for relaxation and wellness tourism.
Geologically, Shenxianju is an ancient volcanic landscape formed after volcanic eruptions. It represents one of the most remarkable volcanic landform clusters in the world, featuring spectacular cliffs, peaks, valleys, and natural stone formations.
The vegetation in the scenic area is mainly composed of coniferous forests and mountain plant communities, creating a rich ecological environment for visitors to explore.
Main Attractions of Shenxianju Scenic Area
Xiyan Cifan (West Cliff Sailing)
Xiyan Cifan is one of the most famous landscapes in Shenxianju. Located in Xiyan Valley, the ancient Xiyan Temple sits beside the cliff, and its shape resembles a sailing boat from a distance, giving the attraction its name.
Xiyan Temple was once the residence of Zen Master Xueya during the Song Dynasty and represents the deep connection between Shenxianju and Buddhist culture.
Jieyi Peak and Peach Blossom Valley
Jieyi Peak consists of three towering column-shaped peaks standing side by side. The three peaks are similar in size and arranged neatly, resembling three brothers standing together.
The peaks feature natural formations that appear like a human face, with shapes resembling a hat, eyes, and nose. The valley below was once planted with peach trees, which is why it became known as Peach Blossom Valley.
South Sky Bridge
The South Sky Bridge is one of Shenxianju’s most exciting attractions.
Stretching approximately 120 meters in length, the bridge is suspended more than 100 meters above a deep valley, connecting the northern and southern sides of the Flying Cliff area.
Standing on the bridge, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, cliffs, and valleys. It offers an unforgettable experience for travelers seeking adventure and spectacular scenery.
Elephant Nose Waterfall
The Elephant Nose Waterfall gets its name because the flowing water emerges from a rock formation resembling an elephant’s trunk.
As the largest waterfall in Shenxianju Scenic Area, it is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and green forests, creating one of the most beautiful natural scenes in the park.
Jiutian Waterfall (Tianchi Waterfall)
Also known as Tianchi Waterfall, Jiutian Waterfall is the highest waterfall in Shenxianju Scenic Area.
With a height of approximately 130 meters, the waterfall plunges from the cliffs into a large pool below. The waterfall pool is also the largest among all waterfall pools in Shenxianju, making it a must-see attraction for visitors.
Tiger Back Cliff
Tiger Back Cliff is a wide mountain ridge surrounded by steep cliffs on both sides.
The shape of the ridge resembles the back of a tiger, giving it the name “Tiger Back Cliff.” From the top, visitors can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding peaks, valleys, and forests.
