Huaxi Park

Huaxi Park Flower Stream scenic area in Guiyang Guizhou China

Located in the southern suburbs of Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, Huaxi Park (Flower Stream Park) is one of the most charming natural attractions in the city. Famous for its clear streams, green hills, beautiful gardens, and harmonious combination of nature and ethnic culture, the park is often called the “Back Garden of Guiyang.”
Covering an area of about 825 mu (approximately 136 acres), including around 300 mu (49 acres) of water area, Huaxi Park offers visitors a peaceful escape from the busy city and a chance to enjoy the beauty of Guizhou’s landscapes.

History of Huaxi Park
Huaxi Park has a history of more than 300 years. It was originally developed during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911) by a local gentleman who transformed the natural landscape by building pavilions, planting flowers and trees, and creating small islands in the water.
In the 1930s, the area was rebuilt as a public park. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, more tourist facilities were added, and the site was officially named Huaxi Park, meaning a place where flowers bloom and streams flow.
Unlike many artificial urban parks, Huaxi Park preserves its original natural environment, with mountains, rivers, and landscapes shaped by nature itself.

Natural Beauty of Huaxi Park
The highlight of Huaxi Park is the beautiful Huaxi Stream, which flows gracefully through the park. The stream is surrounded by four distinctive hills:
* Lin Hill (Kylin Hill)
* Feng Hill (Phoenix Hill)
* Gui Hill (Tortoise Hill)
* She Hill (Snake Hill)
Together, these hills and the flowing stream create a picturesque landscape that combines mountains, water, and traditional Chinese garden aesthetics.
The clear water and peaceful scenery along the stream have earned Huaxi Stream the romantic nickname of “The First Love Stream in China.”

Explore the Four Scenic Hills

Lin Hill (Kylin Hill)
Lin Hill is the highest of the four hills. Its shape resembles the mythical Chinese creature Qilin, a symbol of good fortune and prosperity.
Standing on the hilltop, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire park, including the winding stream, bridges, gardens, and surrounding scenery.

From Phoenix Hill, visitors can overlook the charming countryside landscape, including traditional stone houses, stone walls, and village paths crossing the fields.

Gui Hill and She Hill
Tortoise Hill and Snake Hill are known for their unusual rock formations. Various naturally shaped stones decorate the paths, adding a special charm to the landscape.

Baibu Bridge – A Unique Water-Walking Experience
One of the most famous attractions in Huaxi Park is Baibu Bridge (One Hundred Steps Bridge).
Unlike ordinary bridges, Baibu Bridge consists of stone steps fixed directly in the stream. When visitors walk across it, they feel as if they are stepping directly on the surface of the water.
The experience is especially enjoyable during summer when the water level rises and the clear stream flows around the stones.

Bridges, Pavilions and Gardens
In addition to its natural scenery, Huaxi Park also features many traditional landscape elements, including:
* Elegant bridges
* Classical pavilions
* Historic towers
* Beautiful gardens
Each structure has its own architectural style and cultural background, adding depth to the park’s natural beauty.

Visit Huaxi Park in Guiyang
With its flowing streams, green hills, traditional architecture, and peaceful atmosphere, Huaxi Park is one of the best places to experience the natural beauty of Guiyang.
Whether enjoying a relaxing walk beside the stream, exploring historic bridges and pavilions, or simply appreciating the scenery, visitors can experience why Huaxi Park has long been considered one of Guizhou’s most beautiful urban landscapes.
