Sanfang Qixiang Ancient Street
Sanfang Qixiang, means three lanes and seven small streets, located on Nanhou Street in Gulou District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, spans approximately 45 hectares. This historic district comprises a series of lanes and alleys lining both sides of the street from north to south.
Originating in the Jin Dynasty 2000 years ago, Sanfang Qixiang developed during the Tang and Five Dynasties periods and reached its peak in the Ming and Qing eras, with its ancient architectural features largely preserved. Recognized as China's largest and best-preserved historical and cultural block, it is celebrated as "a living fossil of urban li-fang (neighborhood) systems" and "a museum of Ming-Qing architecture." Centered around Nanhou Street, the 40-hectare area features guided maps at every corner for easy navigation.
The three lanes—Guanglu, Wenru, and Yijin—lie on the left side of the main street, while the seven streets include Jibi, Gongxiang, Anmin, Huangxiang, Taxiang, Langguan, and Yangqiao.

Within this historic district, winding lanes crisscross through stone-paved alleys where white-walled tile-roofed houses showcase meticulously designed layouts featuring curved gable walls and exquisite craftsmanship. Many structures incorporate pavilions, terraces, towers, flower beds, and artificial hills, seamlessly blending cultural heritage with natural landscapes. Sanfang Qixiang (Three Lanes and Seven Alleys) has been a cradle of talent, producing generations of distinguished statesmen, military leaders, literary figures, and poets who achieved prominence here. Some lane names themselves reflect the district's former glory. As China's largest and best-preserved Ming-Qing architectural complex in urban centers, Sanfang Qixiang was unanimously selected as one of "China's Top Ten Historical and Cultural Blocks" in the inaugural "China's Top Ten Historical and Cultural Blocks" competition.
