Shamian Shameen Island
Shamian Island, means Sand surface, because it is the Pearl River alluvial and into the sand bar, so got the name Sand island.  
 
It is located in the southwest of Guangzhou city, Guangdong Province, near the Pearl River in the south, shallowly in the north, and a small island facing the 623 Road. There are eight streets and alleys, covering an area of 0.3 square kilometers.  Sand Island has been China's domestic and foreign trade and visit port in the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
 
Shamian is an important commercial port in Guangzhou. After a hundred years, more than 10 countries have set up consulates in Shamian, nine foreign banks and more than 40 foreign banks have operated in Shamian, and Guangdong Customs Club and Guangzhou Club have been established in Shamian. Shamian has witnessed the changes of the modern history of Guangzhou, leaving the footprints of Mr.Sun Yat-sen and Premier Zhou Enlai. It has become the epitome of China's modern history and concession history, and the European style buildings on Shamian Island have formed a unique open-air building "museum".
 
The main attractions on the island are:
 
the Ruud Catholic Church of Holy Mother
The Church of Mary is a building in the French Concession. It is named after the south of the garden, where the statue of the Holy Mother of Mary is placed. It was established by the religious life of the French Consulate in Guangzhou.
 
Guangdong Foreign Affairs Museum
Guangdong Foreign Affairs Museum is the first local foreign affairs museum in China, which is located at No.20 Shamian South Street, Guangzhou. It is a Baroque style building built in 1890. Originally the French Consulate in Guangzhou during the Republic of China, It is a cultural relic in the Shamian complex and a national key cultural relic protection unit.
 
Entering the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Museum, you will not only have the opportunity to understand the great events of Guangdong, a major foreign affairs province in the past half century, but also see more than 200 precious foreign gifts given to Guangdong province by 122 friendly provinces and states around the world. In addition to collecting pictures of foreign affairs gifts and important foreign affairs activities in Guangdong since the reform and opening up, the museum also specially used the space of rotating stairs to display more than 100 old photos of sand noodles from a hundred years ago.
 
Shamian Christ's Hall
Shamian Christian Church is an Episcopal church in the British Concession of Guangzhou for foreigners. It is located in Shamian Fifth Street, built in 1864. Located at the western end of the concession, it is under the management of the pastor of Hong Kong, and has been chaired by an English priest and worship in English. As it is a rare place to retain the complete century-old Christian buildings in Guangzhou, so many couples getting married in Guangzhou will use the place as one of the necessary scenic spots for taking wedding photos.
 
Customs house
The customs house belongs to the building in the French Concession and was used as a customs house. Before liberation of new China, the "Red Chamber" was the Guangdong Customs Club, and only the middle and senior officials were allowed to enter. After the liberation, it was used as a customs staff dormitory. The building was designed and constructed by Australian architect Pane. The building faces south and is located at the east end of Shamian Street. Because of its special location and the unique shape and distinctive tone, it becomes a landmark building of Shamian. HSBC Bank Building
The former HSBC bank is located at the northeast corner of the junction of Shamian Street and ShaFourth Street. The building plane is south to north, the southeast and southwest for cutting processing. The entrance and exit of the lower section adopts the western gray and white granite classical mountain flower door, with the radial decorative line drawn above the mountain flower door. In order to symmetry, there are 3 Windows also made into mountain flower door. Other long Windows have large round Windows. The corner is gray white granite, the wall between the window with imitation granite water brush stone protection, and hook out the horizontal lines imitation classical stacked stone. 
 
The Soviet consulate
The Soviet Consulate is located at No.68 Shamian Street, three floors high, brick, reinforced concrete structure, facing south, British Victorian style. The main building of the former Soviet consulate has a small courtyard and walls. The front facade and the east and west side facade are equipped with outer corridors, and the second floor of the rear facade is equipped with a cantilevered balcony and a concrete overpass leading to the secondary building. In addition to the facade of the whole building, the eaves, railings and parapet are decorated with high quality clear water red brick, without paint, cement and lime hook, so it is known as the "West Red Building" of the sand surface.
