Pick you up in Datong and check in hotel.
D2 Datong Yungang Grottoes/Xuankong Temple (lunch)
In the morning, visit the Yungang Grottoes. The three main sites in China that are famous for their stone sculpture are Dunhuang, Longmen and Yungang. Among these, the Yungang grottoes are considered first among equals, for their tremendous size, ancient history, and relatively complete state of preservation.

After lunch, go on to visit the Xuankong Hanging Temple. Xuangkong in Chinese means hanging in the air. It was elected as one of the world unstable architectures in Time. Besides, it is the only temple mixing of buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism existing now.
In the late afternoon, we will back to your hotel.
D3 Buddha Tower in Yingxian County (lunch/dinner)
Drive to Yingxian County to visit the Buddha Tower. The tower is the higest and oldest wooden tower existing now. Together with Leaning Tower of Pisa and Eiffel Tower, they are the three wonderful towers in the world. The whole tower is 67.31 meters high, with a 30.27 meter diameter base (octagonal). The most wonderful is that it was made up only by wood, even without nail and rivet.
After visiting the tower, drive to Mount Wutai and check in hotel.
D4 Mount Wutai (lunch/dinner)
In the morning, start the climb of Mount Wutai Shan, the head of China's four famous mountains of Buddhism; the other three are Mount Putuo in Zhejiang province, JiuHua Mountains in Anhui province and Mount Emei in Sichuan province. It is also one of the five world holy lands of Buddhism; the other four are Lumpini in Nepal, Sarnath, Buddha-gaya and Kushinagar in India. On the top of the mountain, you can see the main landform in Shanxi province—the loess plateau. Besides, there are five summits on its top, maybe this is why the mountain names wutai.
D5 Mount Wutai / Pingyao (lunch/dinner)
This day, keep tour in Mount Wutai. In the evening, take train to Pingyao.
D6 Pingyao ancient town / Qiao's Grand Courtyard (lunch)
Local tour guide will pick you up at Pingyao train station and send you to your hotel to have a rest. Then, visti Qiao's Grand Courtyard, architecture with a style of north Han nationality. It was built in Qing Dynasty by a rich and well-known business man named Qiao Zhiyong. There are all six big yards consisting of 20 small yards with altogether 313 rooms; they locate forming double “喜”—Chinese character means happiness. There are several films and television works based on Qiao’s Grand Courtyard that make it even more famous. For example, the movie Raise the Red Lantern (director: Zhang Yimou; heroine: Gong Li) and the TV series Jstars Courtyard are both shot there.
After visiting Qiao’s Grand Courtyard, keep visit Pingyao ancient town if there’s time.
D7 Pingyao ancient town / Xi’an (lunch)
In the morning, keep visiting Pingyao ancient town. It has a history of 2700 years and is comparable to the old town of Lijiang; they two are both in the World Cultural Heritage List. Together with the ancient city of Langzhong in Sichuan province and She County in Anhui province, they four are called “the best preserved four old towns”.
After lunch, you’ll been send to the high-speed train station in Taiyuan to go to Xi’an and your tour will end.
