One Day Qinghaihu Lake Tour
Xining is located on the eastern edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the upper reaches of Huangshui River. It is the political, economic, scientific and technological, cultural and traffic center of Qinghai Province with an average altitude of over 2,200 meters (about 7,217 feet). The activities of human beings in this region can be traced to 2,100 years ago.
During the Western and Eastern Han Dynasties, owing to its developing agriculture, Xining was paid more attention due to its economic and martial significance. As well as being the important hinge between the central plains and the western part of China in ancient time, Xining was the most common passing channel of the famous Silk Road. Until now, it is still the only road by which to enter the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

It is located about 100 kilometers (62 mi) west of the provincial capital of Xining at 3,205 m (10,515 feet) above sea level in a depression of the Tibetan Plateau in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo. Twenty-three rivers and streams empty into Qinghai Lake, most of them seasonal. Five permanent streams provide 80% of total influx.

Your private guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Xining in the morning and drive approximately 2 hours to Qinghai Lake, depending on road and weather conditions.
On the way, you will pass Riyue Mountain (Sun and Moon Mountain), a historic mountain pass and an important landmark along the ancient route connecting the Chinese heartland with the Tibetan Plateau. You will also have the opportunity to stop at a local Tibetan Buddhist monastery and learn more about the religious and cultural traditions of the region.
Continue to Qinghai Lake, known as “Blue Sea” in Chinese. Located in northwestern Qinghai Province, it is China’s largest inland saltwater lake. At an elevation of approximately 3,200 meters above sea level, the lake is surrounded by vast grasslands and mountains, creating spectacular high-altitude scenery.
Qinghai Lake stretches for more than 100 kilometers from east to west and covers an area of more than 4,000 square kilometers. Its expansive blue waters contrast beautifully with the surrounding grasslands and snow-capped mountains, making it one of the most impressive natural landscapes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
The lake is also an important habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife. During the warmer months, visitors may see a variety of birds around the lake, making Qinghai Lake particularly attractive to nature lovers and bird-watchers. The surrounding region is also home to several ethnic communities, including Tibetan and Mongolian communities, adding to the area’s rich cultural character.
