Your private guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Ningbo in the morning and drive to Zhujiajian Pier, crossing the impressive Zhoushan Cross-Sea Bridge along the way. From the pier, take a ferry to Mount Putuo (Putuoshan), one of China’s Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains and an important center of Chinese Guanyin worship. Known as the “Buddhist Kingdom on the Sea,” the island combines a rich Buddhist heritage with beautiful coastal scenery.
After arriving on Mount Putuo, begin your sightseeing in the Western Heaven Scenic Area, one of the island’s most scenic areas. Explore several of its distinctive natural and cultural landmarks, including Guanyin Ancient Cave, the Two Turtles Listening to Buddhist Scriptures, and the famous Pantuo Stone. You will also visit Meifu Nunnery and the peaceful Heart Stone, discovering the stories and Buddhist traditions associated with these sites. Meifu Nunnery is traditionally associated with local customs of praying for blessings.
In the afternoon, visit Puji Temple, the largest and one of the most important temples on Mount Putuo. As the island’s principal temple, it has long been an important destination for Buddhist pilgrims. Explore the temple’s grand halls and courtyards, admire its traditional architecture, and visit the Yuantong Hall, which is dedicated to Guanyin. Take a relaxing walk around the temple’s lotus pond and learn about the Buddhist traditions and customs practiced on the island.
Continue to the South China Sea Guanyin Statue, one of Mount Putuo’s most recognizable landmarks. The monumental bronze statue of Guanyin stands 33 meters (108 feet) high and overlooks the surrounding coastline. Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, is one of the most widely revered figures in Chinese Buddhism, and the statue has become an important symbol of Mount Putuo.
In the late afternoon, take the ferry back to Zhujiajian Pier. Your private vehicle will then drive you back to Ningbo. Arrive at your hotel in the evening, concluding your Mount Putuo day tour.
