Tagong Monastery
Tagong Monastery is one of the famous Sakya monasteries in Garze Tibetan prefecture, about 110 kms away from Kangding county. It is the core of Tagong scenary, which is made up of grassland, river, monastery and village.
The sacred Mt. Yala is sitting in the wide grassland like a huge god with silvery armor overlooking the Tagong monastery. Under its foot, Tibetan villages, tents mixed with the clean river and hills. The Tibetan are feeding yaks, horses, sheeps in leisure.
Tagong means ‘ the place favored by Bodhisattva ’ in Tibetan, and it is adored by Kham tibetan as mini Potala. A statue of Sakyamuni same size as Jorkang temple in Lhasa Potala was worshiped in Tagong Monastery. It is said princess Wencheng left one here when she passed by here 1000 years ago. And the foot-print of Phagapa Dharma-Raja on stone was also reserved in the monastery as treasure.
And the Pagoda forest surrounded it. The horse racing festival will be held every June, which is the big day of the grassland.
