Qingtong Gorge Tourist Area is located in Qingtongxia City.The Scenic Area is charaterized by the tour along Yellow River Dam.
Qingtongxia Dam on the Yellow River (37°53′05″N 105°59′25″E) is located in Qingtongxia. A major irrigation canal branches off the river near the dam and runs north.
It covers an area of 84 square kilometers.It enjoys convenient transportation, with the Bao-Lan, Da-Gu railways and National Highway 109 passing through.
The long history of Qingtongxia has left behind numerous places of interest, including the ancient canal built 2,000 years ago, the Pagoda 108, the imposing dam, the beautiful Bird Island, the temples in Mt. Niushou, and the Qing Great Wall.
108 Lamaist Stupas is a pagoda forest of 108 Lamaist brick stupas. It is situated 20 kilometers south of the Qingtongxia City. As to the age of theses pagodas, no verdict has been worked out yet. According to textural research, it has no less than 900 years of history.
The tallest one measuring 11.5 feet tall stands on the top and the rest are smaller, all measuring 8.2 feet tall. The cluster is in the shape of triangle and composed of 108 pagodas in 12 rows by odd number 1, 3, 3, 5, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 from above to below. The pagoda complex has a unique layout and ranks among the three pagoda complexes in China.
Visitors can enjoy the beauty on the other side of the Great Wall built in Qing Dynasty, learn about the custom of the local Hui ethnic group, and visit the water conservation project in Ningxia.
