Just followed its direct flight to Moscow in early of 2014, Direct flight from Chengdu to the U.S. was launched on June 11th , 2014 as expected for long. After 14 hours flight, the plane of US Airline arrived at airport of San Francisco yesterday. The successful openning of direct flight between Chengdu and America, made Chengdu the 5th city with direct flight to America in China.
Before it, Chengdu has launched more than 70 international lines. Chengdu has opened direct flight to Melbourne and Bombay in 2012, Lundon in 2013. In addition, the frequency of current flights to Europe and the Middle East had been increased.
The absence of direct flights from Midwest China to the U.S. has made it expensive and time-consuming for people there to travel to the U.S., as they have to transfer via Hong Kong, Beijing and Guangzhou, with some costing as long as 50 hours.
Chengdu came in close contact with several airlines in the U.S. to talk over the launch of direct flights from Chengdu to the U.S. during the 10th Asia-Pacific Air Route Development Forum held in mid April.
San Francisco has basically been chosen as the destination of this flight, which was previously said to be Los Angeles. The 14-hour flight was carried out by United Airlines, the largest Transpacific airline worldwide.
