The introduction of Xishuangbanna National Park:
Like a green jade on the crown of the botanical realm,Xishuangbanna National Park lies in the south of Yunnan Province,on the northern fringe of China’s tropical zone. Its complex terrain is comprised of lower mountains,sleep hills,gentle slopes,plains,basins,narrow valleys and shallow lakes.
The park is one of the most remarkable places which contains habitats that range from marshes,open waters to dense forests,1,193.7—2,491.5 centimeters of annual rainfall and over 80 percent of mean relative humidity.
All these superb natural conditions supports a tremendous range of plant and animal types,some highly rare and unusual. The park covers a total area of 241,776 hectares that encompass 5 sanctuaries or sub-parks at Jinghong,Mengla,Menghai,Mengyang and Mengcang. Xishuang’s various habitats are homes to an almost endless array of plant and animal life. The park is famous for its matchless and exceptionally wide variety of natural plant life of both tropical and subtropical zones.

A Treasure House Of Precious Plant Life
There are 816 species of timber trees in the park,of which over 100 species produce valuable timbe. A great number of plants,136 species in all,produce edible or industrial oils. Wild fruits and wild flowers,134 species in total,grow in abundance here.
A Paradise Of Wildlife
The abundant tropical plants and the dense tropical forests provide excellent habitats for the exceptionally huge populations of wildlife. One hundred and two species of mammals,38species of amphibians and 63 species of reptiles live happily in this park.
Historic Sites
Xishuangbanna contains not only exceptionally beautiful tropical scenery,a wealth of natural resources,but it is also prolific in well-known historic sites. Most of the pagodas are Buddhist relics and are white-washed,showing the holy and pure spirits of the earliest Buddhist ancestor.
Scientific Research
A number of scientific surveys have been conducted in this park.Such as controlled breeding and domestication of wild plants to produce wild plants of high economic value and wider usage,the different sizes of protective areas and various tree numbers for different types of tropical forests to ensure a successful protection,etc.
Xishuangbanna is the language of the Chinese Dai national minority in Yunnan Province meaning”twelve administrative districts” that had been practiced in this region long ago.
The city at the center of the park is called Yunjinghong,also in the Dai language meaning”a city of dawn” Airline and then bus services provide easy access to the park from Kunming,capital of Yunnan Province,southwest China.
A United Nations International Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site,as well as a place of origin where a great variety of ancient wildlife and plant life originated,Xishuangbanna National Park is honored as a “cradle of plant and animal life”.
