Your Nanjing tour begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel by your private guide and driver. Your first stop is Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, located on the scenic slopes of Purple Mountain. Dedicated to Sun Yat-sen, a key figure in China’s modern history, the mausoleum is an important historical landmark in Nanjing. Climb the long staircase to the memorial hall and enjoy the surrounding views while learning about Sun Yat-sen and his role in China’s transition to the modern era.
Next, continue to the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, the tomb of the Hongwu Emperor, Zhu Yuanzhang, founder of the Ming Dynasty. As one of the best-preserved imperial mausoleums of the Ming Dynasty and part of the Ming and Qing Imperial Tombs UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is famous for its grand layout, the Sacred Way, and the impressive stone statues lining the approach to the tomb. Surrounded by forested hills, the mausoleum also offers a peaceful combination of history and natural scenery.
In the afternoon, head to Qixia Temple, one of the most important Buddhist temples in southeastern China. Nestled among the wooded hills of Qixia Mountain, the temple is known for its long Buddhist tradition, historic architecture, and tranquil surroundings. Take a leisurely walk through the temple complex and discover an important part of Nanjing’s religious and cultural heritage.
Later, return to the city center and explore the lively Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao) area, one of the most popular historic districts in Nanjing. Wander through the traditional streets, browse local shops, and try some authentic Nanjing snacks.
As evening approaches, enjoy the atmospheric scenery along the Qinhuai River, where historic buildings, traditional pavilions, and illuminated riverside streets create a beautiful setting. For a more memorable experience, you may choose an optional Qinhuai River boat cruise and admire the historic architecture and nighttime scenery from the water.
