Chengdu’s first tram line will start construction in 2015, xinhuanet.com reported.
The city of Chengdu in Sichuan province plans to lay three tram lines in urban areas in the near future, in an effort to increase public transportation efficiency.
The tramways are designed to lay on the median strips that separate opposing lanes of traffic, so that the trams won’t obstruct the vehicles on the roadways.
At the intersections of tramways and roads, the trams will have the priority to run.
The trams will use electrical power fed by an overhead pantograph and catenary wire. With an average speed of 25 km/h and a max speed of 80 km/h, they are expected to provide people in Chengdu with more efficient public transport service.
The first batch of trams will have five carriages each and 300-passenger capacity.
