The "KingCamp" Fifth Namtso International Hiking Event kicked off on July 25, hundreds of hiking enthusiasts gathering from home and abroad.
All the participants most of whom were from professional clubs took vehicles from Lhasa to Damxung County on July 25th and then got started for the 40-kilometer hiking from Damxung to Namtso Lake on July 26th.
Dorje Cidro, mayor of Lhasa said, "The hiking event can better brand the famous Namtso as global tourist destination, and further enhance the image of Lhasa as an international tourist city."
Deemed as the "Holy Lake" among Tibetans, Namtso is located at an altitude of 4,718 meters with the surface area of 1,870 square kilometers and is known as the highest salt lake in the world.
Meanwhile, all the participants will carry along garbage bags during the entire journey to protect the wonderful environment and advocate the low-carbon lifestyle.
The Namtso International Hiking Event has been successfully held in the past consecutive four years since 2006.
